CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Superseded)

This qualification reflects the role of workers in the community and/or residential setting who follow an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability, or some other reason. Work involves using discretion and judgement in relation to individual support as well as taking responsibility for own outputs. Workers have a range of factual, technical, and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Who can enrol?

Target groups for the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support are international students who are:

  • Seeking to pursue a career in providing individual support.
  • Seeking to enter a new industry sector.
  • Seeking a pathway to higher-level qualifications
Characteristics of the target group are as follows:
  • International students from various countries who are seeking to develop their skills and knowledge in ageing support to further their career prospects or study pathways.
  • Students will usually be new entrants. However, credit and/or RPL can be provided for those with existing skills and knowledge allowing such students to complete the course in a shorter timeframe.
  • Most students will be aged between 18 – 35.
  • Students may be onshore students currently based in Australia or offshore students applying from overseas. Most students speak English as a second language and must satisfy English language proficiency in order to successfully enrol into the course.
Entry Requirements

SP International College has the following entry requirements:

International students must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12.
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs.
  • Have an IELTS* score of 5.5 (test results must be no more than 2 years old). English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Educated for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted.  Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

Pathways from the qualification

Students who complete this course may wish to continue their education into the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support and other Certificate IV qualifications in community services

Employment Outcomes

Potential employment options are as a as a direct support worker in aged care, disability, home and community care or other direct care work in the community services industry.

Qualification Duration

This qualification will be delivered over 52 weeks, including 40 weeks of training and assessment spread over 4 terms of 10 weeks each and 12 weeks of holidays. The qualification requires that a work placement of 120 hours is completed.

Assessments

Assessments will usually commence in the session following delivery. As this is a competency-based program, assessments continue throughout the program until the participant either achieves the competency or a further training need is identified and addressed. Students will be required to perform a range of assessment tasks.

Course Credit (CT/ RPL)

Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. The recognition of prior learning (RPL) pathway is appropriate for candidates who have previously attained knowledge and skills from outside the formal education and training systems which includes work and life experience. Students may apply for RPL or credit transfers for any unit in which they can successfully demonstrate competency.
